Barbados projects growth in its global sports calendar for the year 2026. The Caribbean island reaffirms its leadership in international events by hosting the Sun, Sea and Slam Bridge Tournament at the Barbados Beach Club. The event, running from February 9th to 14th at the Barbados Beach Club, features the participation of over 250 international visitors, mostly from Canada and the United States of America. Since its founding in October 1990, this annual tournament has become an essential component of the island's sports calendar. Kamal Springer, Sports Manager of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., highlighted that the demand is so high that the facilities at the Barbados Beach Club are fully booked for the current edition, with similar projections for the year 2027. In Bridgetown, Barbados, the island continues to strengthen its position as the leading destination for sports tourism in the Caribbean region, celebrating 36 years of the Sun, Sea and Slam Bridge Tournament. Additionally, the island is preparing to host the finals of the Caribbean Premier League in September, reinforcing its reputation as a world-class host and an engine of the regional economy through sports and hospitality. Events such as the Barbados Rally, the Barbados Ninja Throwdown, and the Barbados Open Water Swim report a constant growth in their number of attendees. Likewise, the official mentioned the island's interest in strengthening ties with the World Bridge Federation to host larger-scale competitions in the future. The dynamism of tourism in Barbados is backed by a robust sports agenda for the present year. The longevity of this competition is an indicator of the capacity of local infrastructure to offer high-quality experiences consistently. For the third consecutive year, the event has managed to attract a number exceeding 250 international visitors, many of whom choose to extend their stay to tour the island. The President of the Barbados Bridge League, Roglyn Hinds, noted in the third person that the destination offers participants a combination of high-level competition and an escape from the winter climate, allowing visitors to enjoy the warmth and geographical beauty of the country.
